making posters

so we got to make posters using our wallpaper. The poster design was based around the Innovative and Functional Furniture design show. So we had all the type criteria for that, plus we needed to include the design within reach logo, fix logo, some other logo, and a psu logo. Since i had a fairly simple wallpaper, i wanted to keep my poster design fairly simple too. I originally just wanted to take a photo with me wearing my wallpaper as a hat, but i had problems with setting up the picture. I put a lawn chair in my bath tub, with my paper hat on, and some goggles, and tried to set the timer on my camera, since i was by myself doing said activity. Unfortunately it just didn't turn out very well, i really liked the idea though, and thought the picture would have been good as a background for the poster. The white would have been a good contrast to the type in the forefront, and the image would have been fairly intersting. So I began stage 2 of my design. I looked for meat furniture online, since i felt that was appropriate with my wallpaper. Amazingly enough i found some. So i decided these would be the focal pieces of my design, I live traced it and then converted it to 16 color, expanded it, then just got the chair and mirror. I decided the mirror would make a good frame to put my wall paper in. I chose to do this rather than putting my wallpaper in the background or using it for some other texture, to not take away from the information text. With these images created i wanted to create a simple space, with a little bit of depth to it. I found some hard wood floor, used a clipping mask to create the area of the floor i wanted and adapted the wall frames to that. I also recreated the fix logo and the other logo using basic tools, the font doesn't quite match the original, but its pretty damn close. I then broke the text down into what i though were the 3 areas of interest, the show title itself where, and then the preview fundraiser thingy, since that was a one day event. The show title i kept horizontal to contrast the rest of the lines, and chose a dark blue font to help it stand out from the softer blues of the back ground. The setting text, i typed on a path to match the floor/wall line, and chose a softer blue than previous to help it not be so dominant so that a hierarchy could be established within the text. The next text i made red to blend in more with the colors of the floor and to compliment the red of the chair/mirror a little bit, and typed on a path similar to the previous. I did this in cs2, and the type didn't quite transfer over right.
